Hoop Shoot

Youth Camp

Elks Care. Elks Share.

Annual Youth Hoop Shoot

The Hoop Shoot is much more than a basketball contest—it’s a community event designed to empower our youth through the love of the game.

Hosted by the Elks, this annual event in Rochester, Minnesota, brings together children, parents, and community members in a spirited display of sportsmanship, determination, and fun.

For nearly 50 years, the Hoop Shoot has served as a dynamic platform where kids learn that success isn’t just about making baskets—it’s about developing grit, resilience, and perseverance. Long before experts began to study the importance of grit in child development, the Elks were instilling these values in our young athletes. Parents and contestants alike share inspiring stories of how the Hoop Shoot encourages kids to set goals, overcome challenges, and build character through friendly competition.

Adding to the excitement and recognition, each year the six Hoop Shoot National Champions have their names and pictures showcased in a brand-new digital exhibit at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts. Moreover, two of the Frank Hise National Champions join the Hall of Fame’s Enshrinement Ceremony, honoring the outstanding achievements of these young competitors on a national stage.

Join us in celebrating the Hoop Shoot—a time-honored event where every shot taken is a step towards building a brighter, more resilient future for our children.

Youth Field Trip to Soldiers Field Memorial

This field trip not only educates but also inspires the next generation by connecting them with local history in a meaningful and interactive way.

The Rochester Elks remain committed to creating these valuable learning experiences for children from area grade schools, nurturing curiosity and a deep appreciation for the freedoms we cherish.

Every year, the Rochester Elks proudly sponsor an enriching field trip to Soldiers Field Memorial, offering local students a hands-on opportunity to explore history and learn about the values of freedom and patriotism. This year, 40 enthusiastic third graders from Kasson-Mantorville School embarked on an educational adventure at this historic Rochester landmark.

Armed with a fun scavenger hunt questionnaire, the students eagerly set out to discover the memorial's secrets. Their mission was simple yet engaging: find answers that revealed the story behind the memorial, the significance of the flag, and the enduring spirit of freedom.

Throughout the visit, dedicated community members helped bring history to life:

  • In the first photo, Elk member Tommy Carey is seen guiding two students as they search for clues and answers during the scavenger hunt.

  • The second image captures the students in action, intently exploring the site and piecing together their discoveries.

  • In the third and fourth photos, Rochester Fire Chief Kerska provides insightful explanations about important historical details displayed on the memorial’s wall, deepening the children’s understanding of the sacrifices and values honored at Soldiers Field Memorial.
